Discovering The HERITAGE NEXT Heavenly Embroidery Exhibition
Samaritaine
Welcome to the subway life of Miss Maltese!
What’s life like abroad in the fashion capital? For me, it’s Fashion Month, so get ready to join me as we dive into the heart of the global fashion scene! Our next stop is Paris, at Samaritaine, a stunning shopping center. The subway stop? Pont Neuf a beautiful venue located near Cheval Blanc Paris and the Louis Vuitton Maison.
I was honored to attend the WWD China x Samaritaine Expo, an exclusive event celebrating the finest talents in Chinese fashion. The exhibition, titled The HERITAGE NEXT: Heavenly Embroidery Exhibition.
This remarkable showcase embodied a harmonious coexistence with nature, resonating deeply with the universe and traditional Chinese Taoist philosophy. The event highlighted how sustainability in fashion transcends the human living environment, evolving into an eternal proposition that integrates international values, global perspectives, and diverse cultures. It connected East and West, tradition and modernity, and explored the symbiotic relationship between commercial enterprise, human society, contemporary architecture, and natural ecosystems.
This unique collaboration between WWD China and Samaritaine brought together an eclectic mix of designers who are shaping the future of fashion. They beautifully blended heritage craftsmanship with modern innovation, offering a compelling vision of fashion’s role in both cultural preservation and environmental sustainability. Walking through the exhibition, I was mesmerized by the diverse range of designs on display, each telling a story of cultural heritage, sustainability, and avant-garde creativity.
Caroline Hu the Fashion integrates into life
One of the standout collections was by Caroline Hu, whose romantic, fluid garments carried an avant-garde language that felt both contemporary and timeless. Her use of disorderly thread embroidery added a beautiful layer of texture, making each piece a visual and tactile experience.
Chen Peng also made a lasting impression with his oversized, voluminous silhouettes. Known for his pioneering work in down apparel, Peng's garments embodied strength, functionality, and artistic flair. His pieces, such as the sculptural down jackets, were a perfect fusion of material, design, and culture, truly representing the future of Chinese fashion on the international stage.
I was particularly drawn to Feng Chen Wang’s deconstructed designs. Her minimalistic approach, intertwined with traditional Chinese craftsmanship, especially her work with Suzhou embroidery, was striking. Each garment spoke of innovation and heritage in perfect harmony.
Another designer who caught my eye was Katrina Wu, who showcased her passion for Chinese embroidery techniques. Her collection was a masterclass in integrating traditional craftsmanship with modern fashion, particularly through her Ningbo gold and silver embroidery, which added an elegant yet bold touch to the garments.
Sustainability was also a key theme throughout the expo, particularly in Yang Yingying’s work with her brand TUYUE. Known for her sustainable and fur-free designs, Yingying’s collection conveyed a message of environmental consciousness while maintaining the elegance and artistic beauty of traditional Chinese culture.
Susan Fang, with her geometric aesthetics and vibrant use of color, brought a fresh, bold energy to the event. Her intricate textile techniques, combined with her unique silhouettes, created garments that were as visually stunning as they were innovative.n
As someone involved with Miss Maltese, this experience at the WWD China x Samaritaine Expo was incredibly inspiring. It showcased how fashion can be both a celebration of cultural heritage and a platform for innovation. The designers' focus on sustainability, tradition, and modern artistry resonated deeply with me, and it was an honor to witness their work up close.
I left the event feeling energized and excited about the future of fashion, and I can’t wait to share more insights and inspirations with the Miss Maltese community.
