Fashion month Spring Summer 2023

Another successful fashion month with a lot of surprises. After a couple of seasons where everything was digital or the audience number was restricted we finally had a full fashion month like it was before the pandemic hit and took over. Let us dive into some of the houses that were showcased during this fashion month.

New York Fashion Week

Dion Lee spring ready to wear 2023

Cutouts, off-white tones, lots of black with a hint of this yellowy-green color and red. Dion Lee showcased his collection during NYFW. The opening look; is a top with cut-outs and dramatic shoulders. Underneath, is a miniskirt with a front strap. The whole collection was very sex appeal with cutouts in a lot of garments. Additionally, some of the male looks were these sheer tops which were very gender-bending for me. We see this material in a lot of runways lately. From Dion Lee, to Ludovic de Sain Sernin and Saint Laurent. I expect that this trend will be worn a lot in the streetwear scene and, to be honest, I am all in for it. The mini skirt trend is still going strong since last season since it appeared as well in Lee’s show. I feel like Dion Lee understands the human body and shows the best areas of the body to create a good- looking silhouette that is sexy but also classy and tough. The whole collection was in general good and he had pieces for every occasion; from evening wear to day wear.

London Fashion Week

Charles Jeffrey Loverboy SS 2023

One of the upcoming London designers whose name is on a lot of lips is Jeffrey Loverboy. Some even call him the new Alexander McQueen which, for me, is quite a bold thing to say. But who am I to judge? Loverboy showcased his collection in a lookbook instead of a show and it was a nice collection. Some pieces I adored like look 16 and some less. The collection was, just like Dion Lee, very genderbending and it had a lot of queerness in the collection. There was this queer softness to the garments which I really like because I feel like when designers make a queer-inspired collection it can be very tough, edgy, and sex appeal-ish but with Loverboy’s collection it felt very soft and virgin-like.

Milan Fashion Week

Gucci SS 2023

Alessandro did it again! I wonder how many people from the audience were surprised that the house Gucci found 69 identical twins. The whole show had this power to it. From the soundtrack to the set design and the finale. I got chills all over my body when I watched the show from home. The show was as usual very Alessandro Michelle’s Gucci. The thing I like about Michelle for Gucci is his maximal/chaotic design approach to the garments which somehow makes them look calm and soft. I loved every outfit from the collection but what struck my attention were these chaps-like trousers. Alessandro has been doing a good job at Gucci and there is no need to replace him. However, I do wonder who will be able to follow in his footsteps. He is setting the bar high for the next creative director at Gucci.

Paris Fashion Week

Coperni SS 2023

Probably the house that won fashion week with its iconic spray-on dress moment with Bella Hadid. I have seen the video everywhere online and that is something you want to achieve as a designer. Some of the climaxes in the show were, of course, the sprayed dress of Bella Hadid and sprayed shirt of Mona Tougaard. Moreover, they had dresses made with thousands of pieces of embroidered glass, power shoulders, and cut-outs. The collection was named Coperni Feme; An ode to a reconstituted paradigm of femininity. And this was seen back in the collection. It had this powerfulness to it, elegance, and femininity that I liked. A big congratulations to Sébastion Meyer and Arnauld Vaillant on this amazing collection that made history!
