The legacy of Alessandro Michele, what he will leave behind and the expectations for the new creative director at Gucci.
No one expected to hear that Alessandro would leave Gucci. Especially after hearing the shocking message of Raf Simons ending his brand. The industry was shocked. Alessandro made a big impact on Gucci and he revived the brand and it became a respected house again. Michelle received the CD position back in 2015. Back then, Gucci was doing horribly in sales. They were known as this tacky house with terrible clothing -and it was- but then Alessandro came. What made this so special is because the first 3 to 4 years the sales were still not doing good. And normally, a CD will be replaced by then after a couple of unsuccessful seasons.
However, this was not the case for Michelle. Gucci stated that they believed in Alessandro's visions. They aligned with him 100% and the people who didn’t want to then that he was fine but he will stay in the house. After a couple of years, in 2019 Gucci’s sales increased drastically and they were the most popular house followed by Balenciaga.
He put Gucci back on the map and it become a respected house again.
ALESSANDRO WAS GUCCIS JOHN GALLIANO FOR DIOR.
Honestly, I have no idea who will follow him up or where Alessandro will go to. I would love to see him doing Dior women and see what he can do there. But for his follower, I have no idea. Personally, I would love to see someone like Richard Quinn at the house. I have no idea why but he’s the only designer currently where my intuition is going. Whether or not he will be it is something we will find out in the upcoming months.
One thing is for sure; the next creative director at the house has some big shoes to fill. Let’s see if they will follow up.
